A Civil service Wedding in Skiathos, takes place from May until October, twice per week at the Bourtzi (old school of Skiathos, Municipal Meetings Room now-see left picture).  In order to have the civil wedding, the following legal papers are necessary:

 

  • Birth certificate (officially translated)
  • Certificate that you can get married (no legal boundaries)
  • Passport copies for EU residents-(equivalent legal documentation for non-residents)
  • 3 parabola documents for service charges (paperwork processing and use of Bourtzi Municipal room for the Service
  • 9 day minimum requirement of presence in Skiathos

Please note that all required legal documentation as shown below MUST be translated in Greek, through the Greek Foreign Affairs translation department in Athens, or your local Greek Embassy or consulate, unless otherwise indicated in each requirement.
  • Divorce certificate/decree if any

a)       A certificate must be obtained from the judge, as well as the Church if you have had a Greek Orthodox Wedding in the past.

b)       The divorce decree must be officially translated in Greek, only for the part that carries the court’s decision, and not the settlement.

 

  • Single status letter/Letter of No Impediment (from your city/town hall) for each of you or marriage license.

a)       Both letters and/or marriage license must be officially translated in Greek.

·          A letter of Celibacy is required from the Greek Orthodox Church (a certificate giving consent and the freedom to marry)

a)       This document is usually given (signed and stamped) in Greek from the priest of your parish and no translation should be needed.

b)       Your local church Bishop must validate the document.

 

  • Baptismal Certificates for both the Bride and Groom

a)       This document is usually given (signed and stamped) in Greek from the priest of your parish and no translation should be needed.

b)       Your local church Bishop must validate the document.

 

  • You will both have to sign Certificate of Faith in a notary office that your children will become Greek Orthodox.

a)       Document must be in Greek

b)       If you cannot get it on time, let us know as soon as possible

 

IMPORTANT CLARIFICATIONS

    • Please note that authorities in Greece require that all wedding related documents (except the divorce decree)-see above requirements, be issued no more than 3 months before the wedding date.
    • In order to avoid last minute documentation problems, please fax all necessary documents, at minimum 60-75 days before you come to Skiathos, for a final review with the Skiathos church officials.  Please fax all of the above documents to +302427024439 (please be sure to send us all documents in original language and fully translated in Greek), to the Attention of GRS travel agency-Events Management.
    • Upon confirmation from the Head priest that all documents are in order and nothing else is needed, we kindly ask you to send us by courier service or registered mail only,  all original documents (in both the original language and the Greek translations), to our head office in Skiathos.  Attn: GRS travel agency-Events Management, Skiathos, 37002, Greece, Tel: +302427022771.
    • For a Greek Orthodox Wedding, it is required that the bride & groom be in Skiathos for a minimum of 2 working days prior to the wedding ceremony, and 1 working day after the Wedding ceremony.
